Honestly, I’m not counting on anyone ever buying a print out of my Instacanv.as gallery, but hey, you never know who might desire pictures of Hawaii, delicious food, average gardening, and fat cats adorning their walls. I must say though that I love the idea of being able to turn Instagram photos into pieces of art with the click of a button. And there are some incredible galleries out there with killer images by Zak Noyle, Tino Valdez, and many others. BTW, if you happen to come across a great Metallica gallery, please do let me know. \m/

One of the things I love doing most on the iPhone 4 is taking pictures. They come out incredibly stunning for a 5-megapixel camera. Just look at my Kona sunset photo above. And those who know me, know how obsessive I am about taking photos of everything…especially my food. Even though I own a Canon Ti1 DSLR, I rarely leave the house with it these days as the iPhone is usually enough for my daily needs.

Lately, I’ve been playing with a few photo apps that take the photography and photo sharing experience to another level. So I thought I’d share a few of my favorite photo apps and why I like them. Click the section headers to be redirected to iTunes to download.

FOODSPOTTING

With my love of eating, this is definitely one of my favorite photo apps right now and will be for a while. Not only can I share the great food I’m eating, but I can also discover delicious things to eat around me…in any city I may be in. The food guides are a fun aspect of being a part of the community and the ability to comment on and view comments other people’s posts helps you weed out what’s good and bad. Updates can also be shared via the app on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, and FourSquare. This app is free to download.

INSTAGRAM

A fun photo sharing social network where people take photos, filter them through one of the apps 12 filters, add a caption, and tagged by location before being posted. You can “Like” and comment on photos. You can even make the “Popular” page. Follow the people you like and share moments of your life via photos. Updates can also be shared via the app on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Posterous, Tumblr, and FourSquare. This app is free to download.

AUTOSTITCH

Ever wish you could create a panoramic image of a beautiful landscape?  Then this is the app for you. I love it because it’s ridiculously simple to use. Just point, shoot the scene you want in as many frames as you need to, then let the app do the rest of the work for you. It cleverly matches all of the points of reference for you and in a matter of seconds and creates seamless panoramic images (like the one below I took at the Nuuanu Pali Lookout). Updates can also be shared through the app via email and Facebook. You can save images to your Photo Album to share them via other applications. This app is $2.99 to download.

DIPTIC

I recently found out about Diptic playing around with Instagram. Many people us this cool app to create story boards or photo collages from the 19 different templates offered. Each section can be edited and the finished product can be emailed or saved to the Photo Album. Not many sharing options with this app, but fun nonetheless. Photos below were taken this weekend at a friends holiday party for the kiddies. This app is $1.99 to download.

PHOTOFUNIA

And last but not least, I just downloaded this app two nights ago and have been having a lot of fun with it. Choose from 60+ scenes to present your photos in a fun and creative way (that’s my kiddies in the photo below). You can save the final product in you Photo Album or email to share with family/friends. This app is free to download.

So there you have it, a few of my favorite photos applications for the iPhone. There’s hundreds available in the iTunes store. Which are you favorites? I’m always looking for another cool app to try out.

Happy holidays and happy photo taking and sharing!
