When my mom asked Kelly and me last year whether we wanted a California family vacation to Disneyland Park and California Adventure Park or money for Christmas, the answer was pretty obvious. DISNEYLAND BABY! And with that, this family vacation we had been saving for the past few years was accelerated and we, especially the kids, couldn’t have been more excited to visit the Magic Kingdom.

My family had visited quite  few times while my sister and I were younger. In fact, that’s where most of our family vacations ended up. Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Knott’s Berry Farm, and Universal Studios photos are abundant in our family photo albums. Kelly too had gone once with her family when she was younger, but not recently. And Ensen (almost 5) and Avery (almost 2) love watching Mickey Mouse Club. So to say the entire Kam clan was anxious, including my mom and sister who came too, would be an understatement. How have things changed? How are they the same? How many days do we spend there? Will the kids like it? Will they ride anything? Will we have as much fun as we did back when we were kids?

To give you a hint, we had a hell of a good time and the kids, Ensen especially, didn’t want the vacation to end. I didn’t either.

Over the next couple weeks, I’ll be blogging about our family experiences in Southern California, sharing photos and insights on things we did and learned along the way. The goal? Hopefully to provide some helpful tips/suggestions so your next multi-generational family vacation to the “Happiest Place on Earth” and beyond can be even that much more enjoyable.

So I hope you’ll come back, read, and share your comments/experiences because one thing is for sure, this family will definitely be back again and again as the kids grow up. We made some great family memories on this trip…and there are still a ton more to be made.

Much love to mom and dad for the awesome vacation! And to my sister Erin adding to the fun too!

UPDATE: MetClub members have the opportunity to purchase tickets in advance before the general public gets a shot at them tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster. So I couldn’t help myself but to by them for me and my brother -in-law.  Can’t believe we’re doing this. It’s going to be epic! General admission tickets are $99 and VIP tickets are $199. Good luck getting yours tomorrow. And if you’re from Hawaii heading to the show, hit me up.

The moment metal heads have been waiting for! The big announcement on Facebook this morning revealed that The Big 4 – Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax – will take the stage together on April 23, 2011, at the Empire Polo Club in IndIo, Calif. for the first and only time in the U.S. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 8 a.m. HST (10 a.m. PT). Guess who’s already making plans to be at this epic show?! 😉

The announcement of only one show date also brought with it frustration and disappointment from fans who had no trouble venting it on The Big 4 Facebook fan page. I can understand why, but honestly, I’m just glad there’s an opportunity to see this gig in the states.

Not knowing where Indio, Calif. or the Empire Polo Club is, I did a Google search to learn it’s a pretty nice venue a little south east of Palm Springs. It’s surrounded by hotels and what seems like dozens of GOLF COURSES, including Indian Wells, TPC Stadium Course, Mission Hills. Should make for a couple of fun days in the area before or after the show. And speaking of the show, here’s a teaser video below:

So my prayer for a Hawaii show was unanswered. But at least it’s going down on the West Coast. So what’s the fastest and most cost efficient way to do this? Fly into LAX or SNA and drive? Pay more and fly into PSP or ONT? Any recommendations on hotels in the area? And perhaps the most important question…are you going too?!!

See you at the Empire Polo Club in April!. \m/
