Up to this point, only my family and closest friends know I have a “heavy metal” devil inside to me. You should have seen me in high school jamming in our rock band named “Insomnia.” Before that, it was a group called “Stillborn.” But I digress. Maybe one day I’ll post those dreadful photos…then again…maybe not.

But in all seriousness, I still love listening to heavy metal and Metallica will forever remain my favorite metal band of all time. Period! Which is why I’m officially lobbying for a Guitar Hero Metallica edition to be launched in conjunction with their new album Death Magnetic on September 12. I can hardly wait! Hell, afterall they have Guitar Hero Aerosmith. So why not Metallica? Please…..

I’m not shame to admit that I still prefer their old school speed metal sound from albums like Kill ‘Em All, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, Garage Days, And Justice for All, and the Black Album. But from what I’ve heard so far following the creation of the Death Magnetic album on YouTube, I’ve got to say I like what I’m hearing. Fast and heavy riffs with unreal solos from the man himself, Kirk Hammett.

Any other Metallica fans out there like me who can’t wait for the new album to be released? I’d love to hear from you. Hopefully the group hits Hawaii on their next concert tour. I was too chicken to see them the last time they were in Hawaii over a decade ago. I won’t make the same mistake this time around.

…and judged on nothing but the CUTENESS of the athlete player. Think Ensen would have a chance at winning a Gold Medal?

Okay, so get this.  After participating in the Visitor Industry Charity Walk early on Saturday morning, the Kam family had a little Wii party at the condo later in the evening. We had the Valdez (Tino, Katrina, and Oren) and Yuen (Kyle and Julie) families over for dinner and a little Wii and PlayStation fun. We’ve known these folks since college so it’s always great to get together to shoot the breeze.

We had a great dinner and Ensen and Oren really enjoyed playing with one another. But the main event of the night was the grown-ups playing a variety of video games…Wii Sports, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games…and no gaming night would be complete without a little PlayStation2 Guitar Hero action! Here’s a photo montage of an awesome night of friends and fun!

From left: Oren, Katrina, and Jabbey having dinner. Uncle Kyle and Ensen snacking on Cheerios. The video games begin with some Wii bowling. That’s Tino in the green shirt.

From left: Kelly and Ensen watching everyone bowl. Tino cheers after a strike, while Kyle get’s really to roll one himself. Aunty Julie, Ensen, and Oren take break from the action.

A little bottle break for Ensen, while Oren plays on in the background.

Towards the end of the night, Ensen and Oren got a bit affectionate. That’s my boy!

Aunty Julie always enjoys spending time with Ensen. From the looks of these pictures, the feeling is mutual.

For all of you Guitar Hero fantatics (like Kelly and me) out there watch out. There’s a new game called Guitar Rising slated to hit the market later this year which I’m excited to get my hands on. And according to this blog, I’m not the only one. Here’s a description of the game as noted on its website:

Guitar Rising is a music video game where the player plays a real guitar as cued by the game’s visuals. Following rock music sequences and streaming notes, players play guitar melodies and rhythms. Beginner difficulty levels are designed for non-guitar players and hard difficulties will challenge experienced guitarists.

It’s no secret that Kelly consistently beats my you-know-what at Guitar Hero on a regular basis. While I love the game, I’m just not that good at it. To me, many of the songs are easier played on a real guitar, than on a miniature guitar with five colored buttons. I also think she has an advantage because she doesn’t play real guitar like I do, so everything is relatively new to her. Not to mention, she’s got really good hand-eye coordination and learns fast.

I’m convinced I could take her in this version of a music video game. But there’s also a part of me that is afraid to find out the real answer. Hey, I’m a man and I can handle the truth. I play a pretty good version of Stairway to Heaven, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Kelly played it a little bit better…yes, on a real guitar!

I guess we’ll find out how this all shakes down later in the year. I can’t wait to try this game! Maybe it will be in stores by the time my birthday comes in August (hint, hint).
